How to Succeed in Volunteering

So you’ve decided you wanted to volunteer, amazing! Making the choice to step out into the world is a big first step, and you’re already halfway there to making a positive impact.

Here are our top 3 tips on how to succeed in volunteering:

Be open and brave

Most of the time, the only thing that holds us back is ourselves. There really isn’t any right or wrong way to volunteer, so don’t be afraid to make mistakes! Volunteering is a time to experience new opportunities and learn new skills. Remember that every moment is a chance for you to grow.

Initiate that conversation

Volunteering is a great way to meet other people with similar passions and goals. But meaningful relationships don’t just happen – you need to start somewhere! Don’t be afraid to be the first person to say ‘hello’. You’ll meet people from all walks of life, and you might even expand your perspective in ways you didn’t think was possible.

Have fun!

Most importantly, have fun! Volunteering is your voluntary time for the community, so make sure that you’re actually enjoying your time there. Find ways to make the most of your volunteering, whether that means spending intentional time with your teammates, or using your craft for people in need, there are many ways you can contribute and have fun along the way.
