The Impact of Our Board

The majority of non-profits in Canada are led by a volunteer board of directors, who are elected by their members. As a collective group of skilled volunteers, the Board works with the Executive Director to establish an overall strategic direction for the organization.

How Our Board Operates

The Board Governance Manual defines the roles and responsibilities of the Board, the Board Chair, Board Directors, and the Executive. The Board also establishes policies, procedures, guidelines and its bylaws to outline how the Board will carry out its duties of stewardship and accountability.

Board Opportunities

Board members bring a wide range of skills, interests, knowledge, and expertise to their work.

New members are recruited each year to ensure that the Board composition is well rounded. Operating under a code of conduct, individual members function as a team to support the interests of the organization and community it serves.

The essential business of the board is governance, articulating the mission and vision, as well as creating policy and evaluating organizational performance.
