Community Volunteer Connections (CVC) operates within the unceded, traditional, and ancestral territory of the Kwikwetlem First Nations, which dwells within the shared territories of the Tsleil-Waututh, Sto:lo, Qayqayt, Katzie, Musqueam, and Squamish nations in the region known today as the Tri-Cities.
As a registered charity, Fraser North Community Volunteer Connections Society advances volunteerism through volunteer engagement events, hosted learning opportunities, one-to-one referral support, and volunteer promotions. CVC advocates for a benevolent and inclusive society and supports civic engagement.
Candidate Guide
Community Volunteer Connections Nominations Sub-Committee is seeking multiple nominees for one-year terms on our Board of Directors, effective January 2024.
Community Volunteer Connections is actively recruiting Directors who are:
- Committed to right relations with Indigenous communities and the principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI);
- Curious and have an ability to bring humility and a learning lens to the work of CVC; and,
- Knowledgeable about CVC’s mission and vision and are willing to serve as an advocate to the organization’s external networks and circles of influence.
This year, the Board is looking for individuals who have strong competencies in one or more of the following areas:
- Information Technology
- Governance and Ethics
- Legal (LLB qualified)
- Non-Profit Governance
- Marketing; and/or
- Fundraising (CFRE designation or similar preferred)

What Does Our Board Do?
The Board of Directors is responsible for the strategic oversight of Community Volunteer Connection’s range of activities. The Board of Directors adheres to a governance framework that is committed to achieving CVC’s purpose while closely collaborating with the Executive Director and other CVC employees.
Although the Board is not expected or required to make operating decisions, it must perform certain governance oversight functions. These include:
- Supporting and annually evaluating the Executive Director;
- Recruiting and acclimating members of the Board;
- Ensuring compliance with, and periodically updating, the organization’s Bylaws;
- Ensuring effective financial control systems are in place to uphold the organization’s financial and legal obligations; and,
- Approving and overseeing the organization’s financial responsibilities, including the annual budget.
Board Requirements
The time commitment for a Board Director’s role includes:
- Preparation for and appearance at regular board meetings (2 hours on the last Tuesday of every month with no meetings being held in August and December).
- Participation in the annual strategic planning session (one day per year).
- Attendance and participation in the Annual General Meeting (2 hours per year).
- Participation in committee meetings (variable time commitment).

The Nominations Sub-Committee will review applications as they come in and invite shortlisted candidates to attend a virtual meeting. The Nominations Sub-Committee will recommend the selected individuals for appointment at the January 2025 Board of Directors meeting, We hope this information will clarify your obligations should you be selected as a member of our Board of Directors.
